Chris Kaman Inactive For Hornets – Looking To Be Traded

According to Marc Stein, it seems as though Chris Kaman’s short tenure with the New Orleans Hornets is nearing a conclusion. Acquired from the Clippers along with Eric Gordon as part of the Chris Paul trade earlier this year, Kaman has previously expressed doubts about remaining with the team after this season, where he is due to become a free agent.
An 8 year NBA veteran, Kaman has spent his entire career in Los Angeles before being traded to the Hornets this year. He is currently averaging 9.2 points, 6.6 rebounds and 1.2 blocks in one of the least productive years in the league. The former All-Star has been rumored to be the subject of interest to a number of teams looking to bring in a talented center, such as the Miami Heat and Toronto Raptors.
After agreeing in principle to a trade with the Lakers and Rockets earlier this year, the Hornets trade of Chris Paul was vetoed by the NBA and what we have is a situation where all of the main assets acquired by the Hornets; Eric Gordon, Chris Kaman, and the 2012 Minnesota Timberwolves draft pick, could either be gone next year, or not as good as advertised. Gordon rejected a contract extension Wednesday night, Kaman is on his way out of New Orleans and the Minnesota Timberwolves are flirting with post-season play. The situation has brought much scrutiny to NBA commissioner David Stern.
The Hornets (3-15) are currently on a 9 game losing streak and have lost 15 of their last 16 games after starting the year 2-0. The team plays host to the Orlando Magic tonight and awaits the arrival of the Atlanta Hawks on Sunday.
