Could Dwight Howard and Stephen Jackson Team Up With The Nets?

In the early goings of the season, there is no shortage of headline news; Where will Dwight Howard end up?  What will happen to Deron Williams?  Is Stephen Jackson on his way out in Milwaukee?  Well it seems as though all 3 stories have collided into one big potential blockbuster.

According to a recent report by ESPN’s Ric Bucher, Dwight Howard and Stephen Jackson have been in communication with each other about joining forces with Deron Williams in New Jersey.  Bucher was quoted as saying:

“If they [Nets] want to improve their chances, my understanding is that Stephen Jackson & Dwight Howard have talked several times about playing together.  And would love to do so with the Nets with Deron Williams at the point guard setting them up.  If the Nets want to improve their chances of getting Dwight Howard, making a deal for Stephen Jackson as well should be on their menu.”

It’s no secret that Stephen Jackson is unhappy in Milwaukee.  The Bucks (8-11) have recently suspended him for unexcused absences and his future with the team is highly doubtful.  The 11-year veteran is averaging 12.8 points, 3.2 assists and 3.4 rebounds through 17 games this season.

Dwight Howard, who requested a trade this year from the Orlando Magic (12-9) who are on a 4 game losing streak and quickly fading fast after at one point being in command of the Southeastern Division.  Howard is the most highly prized center in the league and is currently averaging 20.2 points, 15.5 rebounds and 2.1 blocks per game through 20 games so far this year.  He has become discouraged as of late, criticizing his teammates for the team’s recent slide into the lower half of the playoff seeding.

Deron Williams, on the team currently making a play for both Jackson and Howard, is on the New Jersey Nets (7-14), who have been a disappointment to many in the league, who thought the team would be performing at a higher level than it has shown thus far in the season.  The Nets are the 3rd worst rebounding team, 5th worst defensive team, and 9th worst scoring team in the league.  Williams, who has been noncommittal to his future in New Jersey, has averaged 19.6 points, 8.5 assists and 3.7 rebounds per game through 20 contests this year.
