Rivers, Popovich next in line as Team USA’s basketball coach

With the gold medal game between Spain and USA possibly being the last we see of Mike Krzyzewski in the Olympics, ESPN has reported that Doc Rivers and Gregg Popovich has moved to the top of the list to take over as head coach of team USA. Of course, that’s only if Mike Krzyzewski decides to retire from international basketball but all signs point to the gold medal game being his last as team USA’s head coach.

However, Colangelo has said he will attempt to convince Mike Krzyzewski for one more run after giving Mike some time after the Olympics. ESPN has also reported that Louiseville coach Rick Pitino has expressed strong interest in the position but the expectation is that the successor for the head coaching job will be an NBA coach.
