Drafted with the 10th pick overall in the 1999 NBA draft by the Atlanta Hawks, Jason Terry meshed well in the National Basketball Association and became a key starter for the Atlanta Hawks from 1999-2004; putting up a 15+ points per game almost every season.
In 2004, Terry was shipped to Dallas to to become the replacement for Hall of fame Guard Steve Nash. And got a chance to play with another all time great, Dirk Nowitzki.
From day 1, the two meshed immediately and made a trip to the NBA finals after just 1 year of acquiring Terry, only to lose to Dywane Wade and the Miami Heat in 6 games.
In Terry’s 7th year with the Dallas Mavericks, he made another trip to the NBA finals, to face his nemesis, the Miami Heat again. This time Terry and the Mavs were locked in and focused 24/7 and didn’t allow any beating to take place on their team; and the hard work eventually paid 0ff, Jason Terry finally got his first ring and finally got what wanted.
In the 2012 season, Jason Terry would come back to Dallas for just one more year and wanted to make the best of it. On January 29th, 2012, Dallas faced off with it’s bitter inner-state rival, the San Antonio Spurs.
Terry put up 34 points off the bench, plus a staggering .609 FG% and took the charge in crunch time to put the San Antonio Spurs away 101-100 in Overtime.
Jason Terry had his best night since the 2011 NBA playoffs; game 4 of the semi conference finals against the L.A Lakers when he tied the record for most 3 point field goals made in one game.
On January 14, 2012, Jet also had another performance that standed out over most games. Against the Sacramento Kings, Terry and the Mavs went to work that night. Terry put up 21 points and 3 assists in just 21 minutes and shot 8 for 13.
But however, 2012 was Jason Terry’s last year in Dallas, and his name will never be forgotten. And someday his name will hang in the rafters in the American Airlines Center along with Dirk Nowitzki, Rolando Blackman, and Brad Davis.
